Physical Therapy Q & A
How is Physical Therapy at Living Well Balanced different than other clinics?

20-30 years ago, physical therapy was an almost entirely different profession. The emphasis was on passive modalities like electrical stimulation and ultrasound and simply stretching what is tight and strengthening what is weak. The treatment philosophy focused only on the specific area in pain rather than focusing on the body as a whole. Clinics were seeing multiple patients per hour and employed under qualified "aides", to perform general therapeutic exercises with the patient. Unfortunately, most physical therapy clinics today still employ this approach!

Here at Living Well Balanced we have redefined physical therapy. You will be treated one on one with a physical therapist the ENTIRE session performing a combination of hands-on therapy and individualized corrective exercises specifically addressing your postural and movement impairments. We look at the entire body as a whole unit that functions in sync. Our manual therapy or hands-on approach to treatment is not simply massage but rather specific treatment techniques such as myofascial trigger point release, active release, mobilization with movement and muscle energies to assist in accomplishing your goals.

How can Physical Therapy Help Me?

At Living Well Balanced our aim is to provide comprehensive care to our patients to relieve their pain and help them enjoy a healthy lifestyle with better quality care. Get back to pain free function with the dedicated attention of our physical therapy doctor. Here are some of the benefits physical therapy at Living Well Balanced can provide you:

  • Improved posture: if you sit at a desk all day, or stand at one location, there are painful consequences for poor posture. We can correct your posture with the right physical therapy program so your work day will be significantly better.
  • Decrease knee pain for runners: a common problem for runners that takes them out of the game needlessly is knee pain. If you stopped running for any joint or muscle injury, we can help.
  • Nagging back and shoulder pain: Enjoy carrying your grandchildren, or stand and cook for hours with freedom from the aches that we can take away.
  • Relieve pain without surgery: Chronic pain can make your life very difficult. Physical therapy can help you manage that pain without the need for more invasive procedures like surgery. Pre-surgery physical therapy sessions are a great way to help make your body stronger. This way, even if you do need surgery you are able to recover faster.
  • Develop better mobility: No matter your age if you’re having trouble walking, standing or moving, a physical therapist can assess your condition and propose a plan that will help you get back on your feet.
  • Avoid Opioid pain medication: Opioid medication is highly addictive and comes with a hefty set of side effects. If you are looking for pain relief without medication or trying to lessen your dependence on it, physical therapy can help you achieve your goals.
  • Manage age related issues: People suffering from osteoporosis, arthritis, back or hip pain and joint pain and stiffness can manage their pain and improve mobility through customized physical therapy sessions.

Dr. David Levkovich, DPT leads our physical therapy team. He takes a holistic approach to treatment, addressing the body as a whole unit to search for the cause of dysfunction rather than the symptom. His experience and expertise partnered with the latest equipment helps patients get the best treatment possible.

How do I choose which is better to help me, Physical Therapy or Chiropractic Care?

At Living Well Balanced, you don't need to choose! Chiropractic treatment and physical therapy work great together to relieve pain and improve movement. For example, if you’ve developed chronic pain in your lower back due to sitting for long hours at your desk job, a chiropractor can adjust part of your spine to correct any misalignment while a physical therapist can help you strengthen your muscles and correct your posture so that the pain never comes back.

There are many advantages of having your chiropractor and physical therapist under the same roof:

  • You get comprehensive treatment that helps you get better results
  • Both your chiropractor and therapist are well aware of your medical history and make sound decisions regarding your treatment
  • You don’t have to visit multiple clinics/establishments to get better and manage your pain
  • Your treatment takes place in a high-tech, clean, professional and friendly environment

At Living Well Balanced, our chiropractors and physical therapists work together to make sure you get the best possible treatment. All patient files are shared and each individual case is discussed in detail to help provide customized care to each patient. All our chiropractors and practitioners work in sync with each other incorporating the latest techniques to ensure faster and better healing.

You may be suffering from shoulder pain that is keeping you from lifting things or raising your arm, or knee pain that is hindering your morning run, or lower back pain that is making it hard to stand or sit for long. Together, chiropractic treatment and physical therapy can help take all that pain away and enable you to return to your normal routine stronger and healthier.

How will my Physical Therapy treatment work with massage and personal training?

Here at Living Well Balanced all services work in conjunction with each other. We are constantly communicating about every patient to ensure we meet their wellness and health goals. Your physical therapist will be speaking with the massage therapist on an ongoing basis to discuss all pertinent areas to focus on during the treatment. In addition, your physical therapist will consult with your personal trainer to ensure that everyone is on the same page to address your health needs. Massage therapy and personal training are recommended additions to your physical therapy treatment in order to focus more intensely on the soft tissue and strengthening/cardio components in an optimal manner.
