At Living Well Balanced in Manhattan, we know that a proper diet (i.e, a diet that works for YOU) combined with physical activity can help you reach and maintain a healthy weight, reduces your risk for chronic diseases, and promotes your overall health. Dr. Ankur Prakash, DC and Jolie Rizzo, PT, CHC offer nutritional therapy—identifying imbalances in your body such as nutritional deficiencies. They then adjust your diet and lifestyle to target nutrients and put you on the path to optimal health. Getting the nutrition your body needs is a natural solution to inflammation, cancer, arthritis, allergies, and more!
At Living Well Balanced, we hone in on your individual nutritional needs, meaning that you won’t receive a “quick fix” from us. Instead, you will receive information, tools, and ongoing support to bring about meaningful change in your health and well-being. Eating is so much more than just food — it’s infused into our culture, our relationships, and our sense of self. We address the behavioral, dietary, and lifestyle aspects of your relationship with food, creating a holistic plan to guide you to your individual goals.
In the past, a doctor may have looked at your weight and BMI to determine your health. At Living Well Balanced, we know that those numbers alone do not tell us enough, if anything, in regards to your health. We use what’s called the Nutra-Screen program, from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), in our office. This program is an updated online questionnaire that allows us to analyze your eating habits and make nutritional recommendations tailored to your specific health goals. The exam takes about 20-30 minutes to complete, and tells us a lot about your food intake. After reviewing this information, our Nutrition Team will then determine your individual nutritional needs. The most common areas for imbalances include diet, digestion, essential fatty acids, hydration, minerals, and blood sugar. Imbalances in these areas can directly affect your overall well-being, endocrine system (hormones), cardiovascular health, and immune system. We then create an actionable and easy to implement plan to put you on the right nutritional plan that works for your lifestyle.
Our Nutritional Therapists are here to help you take control of your health. We work closely with our clients to lose weight, manage chronic illness, watch for drug interactions, balance your digestive, immune, and hormonal systems, and so much more!
To prepare for your first one-hour session, you should have your Nutra-Screen online questionnaire completed. We will review your completed Nutra-Screen form and any blood work you may have had done. We will determine both what is and what is not right for you to be putting into your body. We then put together a nutrition-based plan for foods and supplements that will support your body for the healing transformations you are looking to achieve. Your nutrition plan will be easy to follow and introduce you to a new and exciting world of healthy eating!
