Chiropractic looks at how your entire nervous system works and how it affects your body. It’s how your body communicates with itself—sending messages to your organs, synapses, and networks of internal resources. When your nervous system can’t send or receive the proper messages to and from your organs, your body won’t respond the way it's designed to do.
Chiropractic is a natural, drug-free approach to healing that focuses on keeping the nervous system operating smoothly. That means realigning the spine and joints in the body for proper motion and keeping it in motion, with the chiropractic adjustment. An adjustment is applied to areas of restricted motion, using a combination of gentle low-force, traction, manual, or instrument applications as required by your specific areas of concern at your chiropractor’s discretion. The chiropractic adjustment allows proper communication between your nervous system and the entire body to promote healing by reducing the “fight or flight” stress response.
The primary role of the nervous system in your body is to maintain homeostasis, or “balance,” in response to your surrounding environment—all without you having to think about it. It regulates your breathing, metabolism, body temperature, immune system, balance, stress hormones, muscles, organs, sleep patterns, and so much more. It’s the master system, and that’s why chiropractic focuses on maintaining the nervous system at peak performance.
Whenever stress or interference is introduced to the nervous system, we see a breakdown in communication and undesirable responses from the body. These undesirable responses manifest themselves as chronic diseases, chronic back and neck pain, headaches, migraines, arthritis, fibromyalgia—all signals your body is sending you to wake up and pay attention!
Chiropractic care restores proper communication throughout the body so that you are more balanced to handle and respond to stress. Every chiropractic adjustment we use to treat our practice members is designed to restore homeostasis, or balance, to your nervous system so your body can heal itself from within.
Your body is constantly responding to stress on a daily basis. Stress, in the chiropractic sense, is a broad term that covers the physical, mental, and chemical microtraumas we sustain as we go about our day. The following is a very simplified explanation:
Physical stressors are easy to identify: from an obvious event like lifting something too heavy the wrong way and now your back is tight and sore, to repetitive stresses like “text” neck or carpal tunnel syndrome from poor posture. Mental stresses are endless (anxiety, depression, anger) and affect how we relate to everyone around us. And chemical stressors include everything you put inside your body (food, medication, alcohol, caffeine) to everything that confronts your body on the outside (pollution, allergens, hygiene products, infectious creatures!). As you can see, our body takes in stress from all angles, all day, every day!
Pain falls into the physical stress category. When proper, biomechanical motion in the spine and joints is lost or disrupted, inflammation in the surrounding soft tissues sends pain signals to your brain. Your brain registers that message as, “Ouch!” In turn, your brain responds the only way it knows how: by activating the sympathetic nervous system (aka the “fight or flight” mechanism) with tight muscles and even more inflammation. More sympathetic tone will always equal more Stress and more physical Pain.
Here’s the key difference in how traditional medicine approaches pain, compared to chiropractic: medicine (another chemical stressor) will be prescribed to block the message from the body to the brain. Or even more intense, surgical intervention will be recommended (a huge additional physical stressor). Problem solved? Not even close! The broken communication pathway is still there, it’s just being masked.
Chiropractic care gets to the root of the problem by restoring that communication pathway between the nervous system and the body. Proper joint biomechanics in the spine and joints sends the right messages to the brain, reduces sympathetic tone, and reduces inflammation which registers in the brain as “No more pain!” Thank goodness for Chiropractic! Again, be reminded that this is a very simplified explanation.

Chiropractic treatment focuses on relieving stress around your spinal column. Using a combination of gentle low-force, traction, manual or instrument application, your chiropractor helps relieve the stress in the affected area alleviating pain and correcting any misalignment.
A physical therapist works on strengthening muscles and joints surrounding your spinal column and the rest of the body. This helps in reducing pain without the need for Opioid medication or surgery and improves mobility.
In cases where your chiropractor has adjusted part of your spinal column, physical therapy helps you heal quicker by making the muscles surrounding the area stronger and more flexible. Classic and cutting edge physical therapy techniques improve blood flow to the affected area, reducing inflammation and pain.
Whether your pain is caused by injury, old age, or as a result of some other medical condition, both chiropractic treatment and physical therapy can help make the pain go away effectively.
We know you only want the best for your children. Not only is chiropractic care safe for children, it has been shown to build a great foundation for growth and development, and general health and happiness, as a child grows from infant to young adult.
It should come as no surprise that a child has a spine and nervous system that is just as important as the nervous system in an adult! It serves the same function, just in different stages of development. By nurturing that developing nervous system with chiropractic care, we are proactively setting them up for success early in life. What a great gift a parent can give their children!
Your child’s nervous system gets bombarded with the same stresses we talked about earlier, just like you. In fact, the birthing process itself is their first introduction to stress. From intrauterine constraints in the womb, to how they come into the world (breech, c-section, forceps, etc.), can push and pull their little spines out of alignment. After that, they’re faced with antibiotics, vaccines, and diet (chemical stresses) and emotional concerns (mental stresses).
And just like in adults, disrupted nervous system communication will manifest in the physical—constipation, colic, bed wetting, ear infections, torticollis, fussiness, trouble sleeping, reflux and more. If the nervous system isn’t addressed early on, we see a progression of issues into adolescent development such as focus, behavior and mood issues, hyperactivity, asthma, allergies, headaches and sensory integration. Chiropractic care for children focuses on allowing the nervous system to function smoothly by restoring balance so their bodies can deal with stress.
The chiropractic adjustment a child receives is much gentler than that of an adult. Their spine is developmentally and structurally quite different, being mostly cartilaginous until the age of six, so how they are adjusted takes a gentle approach. Children are also very resilient and respond rapidly to an adjustment, so they do not need to be adjusted as often as an adult.
It’s no secret that athletes are always looking for a competitive edge, and many of them find that edge with regular chiropractic care. Elite and professional athletes, weekend warriors, and industrial athletes alike have found chiropractic care the premier choice for natural and drug-free performance enhancement as well as preventing injuries in the first place. They find that their healing is rapid and recovery time from injuries is reduced with chiropractic care.
In fact, ninety percent of all world-class athletes use regular chiropractic care to avoid injuries and maximize performance. All NFL teams employ chiropractors, and 77 percent of trainers refer their professional players to a chiropractor because they know it works.
