Healthy Happy Holidays

The holidays are full of family, friends, food, and fun. But when the holiday season rolls around, it’s easy to get a little lax on taking care of ourselves.But it doesn’t have to be this way. With a few tricks, it’s possible to maintain a healthy lifestyle all year long

Each bite counts-

Sometimes we are tempted to nibble when facing the feasts laid out before us. But many appetizers are around 60 calories a bite! So grab a small plate, and fill it just once so those bites don’t bite you back.

Don’t skip meals-

Sometimes we think we can trick our body by skipping a meal before the big dinner or party. But arriving hungry can lead overeating and over drinking. Eat normally through the day, and stay hydrated. Save your splurging for something you really love, instead of one of everything.

Drink in moderation-

It’s easy to get a little overboard with the abundance of Holiday parties and festivities. Beware of “Holiday Heart Syndrome”  which can disrupt cardiac cell coordination. Get your drinks on the rocks and use mixers to dilute those cocktails.

 Get your Fatty acid on-

Holidays can be stressful. Travel delays, awkward family members, and missing loved ones can bring us down. Those short days of sunshine can bring a bit of gloom into the room. Making sure your getting enough Vitamin D and omega 3 fatty acids can help improve mood and decrease depression. So snack on those walnuts , make your favorite fish dish, and get a good Vitamin D supplement.

Relax and enjoy-

Be good to yourself and your loved ones. It’s all to easy to get caught up in the madness. Slow down, breath in, and focus on all the magic that surrounds us everyday. Make each breath count!
