Where Are You Holding Your Stress?

Hi! I wanted to talk today about a really neat experience that happened during a session with a client I had the other day,

I’ve been making some changes to what I focus on during massage work so that I can give clients a more complete experience, In particular, I work more with muscles that deal with breathing. After all, even when I’m sitting at home doing nothing but watching television I’m breathing! Those muscles are important!

I was working along some Shiatsu breathing points near a client’s spine with none of those new plans for focus on my mind during that session, when all of a sudden my client took a deep, deep breath that sounded almost like a comfortable gasp. Afterward I asked my client if she remembered that moment. She said she was asleep! But then she said something simple but brilliant: “I guess that’s where I was holding all of my stress.”

Huh? Why didn’t I think of that?!? Once again, someone’s body knew more than I did. I wouldn’t have it any other way. It took me by surprise because it wasn’t part of my “massage plan” but somehow we got the results we wanted

In this space I’ll be writing about the thoughts, discoveries and brilliant ideas that clients (and their bodies) give to me while I’m supposedly the one doing all the work. Hey, that’s why we work together.

I hope to see you soon so we can learn together just how smart your body can be. I’ve got lots to learn.
